The most common question:
"Why research Machrihanish?"

The simple answer:
"Curiousity"

Ever since its development during World War 2, the base at Machrihanish has had a rich and often mysterious history, with many events playing a key role in the wider world. During the 50's, the C.I.A. built the secret installation in the Nevada desert, commonly known as Area 51. This facility was and still is used to test the latest in military aviation technology.

The link between Area 51 and Machrihanish seems almost too apparant, as the base was used and funded by the United States for a long duration of its operational lifetime. Many of the rumours and sightings around Machrihanish and the West Coast of Scotland, tie in with similar sightings in the United States. It is a well known fact that the United States Government fuelled the UFO theory to the general public, in a disinformation act to conceal its covert testing of secret aviation technology, more commonly known as "Black Projects."

Many black projects, alson known as unacknowledged programs, have been made public over the past decades. These include the F117 Stealth Fighter and the B2 Stealth Bomber. Both of these aircraft are still closely guarded secrets, and much of the technology is still classified. However, we as the general public now know they exist and have often watched their missions live on Sky News or CNN.

Other Black Projects included the U2 and the SR-71 which were developed during the Cold War. More recently, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles have been dominating the world of military aviation, and we cannot forget the rumoured Aurora aircraft, believed to be a high altitude super fast reconnisance platform.

I am convinced that RAF Machrihanish has played a role in some, if not many of the above mentioned Black Projects. Giving its ideal location, coupled with one of the largest runways in Europe and the large amounts of money ploughed in by the US Department of Defence in the 80s, it all makes sence.

As with many things of this nature, the whole truth never comes out. We can only look at what is out there and make up our own minds as to what is really going on.
