Red Nose Day 2007 - The Big One!

For this years Red Nose Day, I was fortunate enough to be assigned to the Scotland and Northern Ireland office to assist in their media and photographic requirements. Despite being a stressful few weeks and spending more time than I would have liked in the City Centre, the work was fantastic and I can honestly say I met some wonderful people during the job. The fact that the work was for a charity that does very important work both within the UK and worldwide just made the assignment even more enjoyable.
This is my Red Nose Day 2007 Photo Diary - Enjoy.

Thursday 1 March 2007 - Red Nose Day Reading

As part of the 2007 Red Nose Day Campaign, a children's book called But I Do Know All About Chocolate, has been released to be enjoyed by children everywhere. First Minister Jack McConnell was invited to share the story with children from an Edinburgh Nursery School as part of the campaign to promote Red Nose Day and Comic Relief. The Charlie and Lola book gives children an introduction into the concept of fair trade products, with £2 from each book sale going to Comic Relief.

Tuesday 6 March 2007 - River City Cast Photoshoot

Playing a big role in the 2007 Scottish Red Nose Day Campaign were the cast of the hit drama River City. Tuesday involved a visit to the film set to meet some of the cast followed by a photoshoot of the cast in RND branded clothing for publicity material.

Wednesday 7 March 2007 - Braehead Book Reading

As part of the 2007 Red Nose Day Campaign, a children's book called But I Do Know All About Chocolate, has been released to be enjoyed by children everywhere. Libby MacArthur who plays 'Gina Rossi' in River City, read the Charlie and Lola book to children within the Braehead shopping centre.

Thursday 8 March 2007 - Radio Scotland Outside Broadcast

To coincide with Fred MacAulay appearing in the Red Nose Day does Fame Academy competition, the MacAuley and Co BBC radio team were conducting their shows from the Centre of Contemporary Arts on Glasgow's Suchihall Street. A River City competition was launched via the Radio Station by star Tony Kearney who plays Scott Wallace in the hit show.

Saturday 10 March 2007 - Anna Ryder Richardson

Changing rooms star Anna Ryder Richardson entertained children in Glasgow's Borders Book Store, Buchannan Street, with a Charlie and Lola reading. Reading in the children's section of the store, all who attended enjoyed the reading, especially the parents!

Monday 12 March 2007 - Clyde Challanger

During the week running up Red Nose Day, a racing yacht called the Clyde Challenger set sail from Glasgow to travel around ports along the west coast of Scotland, collecting local fundraising money raised for Red Nose Day. I was fortunate enough to be able to get on board the yacht for one of the sailing legs, leaving Ardrossan Harbour and heading for Troon. The yacht would make its final stop at the SECC pontoon in Glasgow on Red Nose Day itself, to deposit the money collected.

Thursday 15 March 2007 - Project Visit

Ford Kiernan, star of TV show Still Game, took time out of his busy schedule on Thursday 15 March to visit the ‘Inner-zone’ facility at Wellhouse Community Trust in Glasgow. The facility was created to provide children in a deprived area a safe place to go after school to meet friends, or use the wide range of facilities ranging from Internet ready computers, recording studio and education and health workshops.

Friday 16 March 2007 - Red Nose Day

It was not long before the assignment was over, and I was on the last day working with Comic Relief. An early start found me back at the Centre of Contemporary Art for another BBC Radio Scotland outside broadcast. Once again, River City cast would be on hand along with several other special guests. The audience was made up mainly of local fundraisers who were on hand to discuss their money raising antics on air.
After the radio broadcast, it was down to the SECC pontoon on the River Clyde with Morag Calder (Ruth Rossie) and Daniel Schutzmann (Marty) from River City, to meet up with the Clyde Challenger. The weather was against us however with some serious rain accompanied by a howling gale blowing straight down the Clyde. The conditions made photography, getting on the boat and even standing upright, very challenging! By 1.30pm, the mornings work was over, and my time with Comic Relief was officially over for 2007. Would I do it again next year if asked? Well that remains to be seen!

A big thank you to everyone whom I met during this fantastic assignment.....and of course to all who donated money to Comic Relief
